CKCSRQ President & Co-founder Retiring
31 March 2026
After more than 20 years of extraordinary dedication, Lois Sheperdson, co-founder and President of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Rescue Queensland (CKCSRQ), is retiring from her role.
CKCSRQ began from a place of deep love and loss. In February 1997, Lois lost her beloved Blenheim Cavalier, Aristotle, unexpectedly at just seven years old. Wanting to honour the memory of this special little companion, she was inspired to do something meaningful in his name.
That idea grew from a simple but powerful thought — no Cavalier should face the distress of being lost, abandoned, or left behind. What began as a heartfelt response became a mission: to help Cavalier King Charles Spaniels who, through no fault of their own, needed a second chance. In many ways, Aristotle’s legacy became the catalyst for a rescue community that has since changed thousands of lives.
From humble beginnings on the Gold Coast, the organisation expanded as more Cavalier lovers came together, working alongside breeders, foster carers, and volunteers across Queensland to support rescue, care, and rehoming efforts.
In 2006, as the group grew, CKCSRQ was formally incorporated and achieved charitable status, enabling it to expand its support for Cavaliers in need. This meant it became easier to raise funds for veterinary care and behavioural rehabilitation. This marked the beginning of a new chapter, allowing the organisation to grow in reach and impact.
Over the years, Lois has played an instrumental role in rescuing and rehoming thousands of Cavaliers, helping each one find a safe, loving forever home. Her compassion, vision, and tireless commitment have shaped CKCSRQ into the organisation it is today.
The CKCSRQ committee and community are so thankful and deeply grateful for everything Lois has given. Her impact on the lives of so many Cavaliers and the families who love them, cannot be overstated.
Her legacy will always remain a part of CKCSRQ, and she leaves with the heartfelt appreciation and respect of all who have been touched by her work.
Lois has assisted the Management committee to prepare for her transition out and they are committed and ready to continue the next chapter of supporting Cavaliers across Queensland.
